HICKORY, N.C. — Police in Hickory are hoping surveillance video from a Toys R Us provides leads to an early-morning break-in during which the burglar did thousands of dollars of damage.

Investigators said the break-in happened shortly after 1 a.m. Monday when someone pried open a rear door to the business.

Inside, the thief shattered an office door and ripped an electrical panel off of the wall.

Police said the burglar left without taking anything after being unable to disconnect the alarm system inside the store.
