CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Officials said a tractor-trailer overturned on a ramp to Interstate 485 Friday morning, spilling 20,000 pounds of gypsum.

The tractor-trailer crashed at around 7:45 a.m. on the inbound Brookshire Freeway ramp to I-485.

Troopers said the tractor-trailer was coming from the Marshall Steam Plant in Catawba County owned by Duke Energy.

The tractor-trailer driver was not injured, officials said.

Once the tractor-trailer is upright, crews will work from the shoulder to remove the gypsum.

Gypsum is not hazardous and is used in building materials like drywall and plaster of Paris, according to troopers.
