Emergency personnel responded to the accident along the highway near Tyvola Road around 2 p.m.

Traffic was backed up for miles and continued through the evening rush hour.

“I actually tried to call 911 just to make sure they had the call, because police weren’t out there at the time,” driver Blake Hollar said.

He wasn't surprised it took so long to clear.

“I could look down, and I could see several cars that looked like they had rear-ended each other and traffic started backing up, actually, in both directions,” Hollar said.

Officials said six people were hurt. One person's injuries were considered life-threatening, two other people were seriously hurt and three others were taken to the hospital but are expected to be OK.

Troopers said their investigation got more complex because of the pregnant woman, who was believed to be in her third trimester.

All lanes reopened at about 6:50 p.m.

Channel 9 is waiting for information concerning the condition of the pregnant woman.
