LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. — North Carolina State Highway Patrol are investigating a deadly crash that happened Thursday afternoon in Lincoln County.
Deputies said they responded around 4:55 p.m. to the crash on Cat Square Road at the intersection of Reepsville Road.
Officials said the driver of a Lincoln Aviator was traveling west on Reepsville Road and failed to stop at a stop sign, colliding with the driver of a Honda Civic traveling south on Cat Square Road at the intersection.

The driver of the Lincoln Aviator swerved off the roadway into an embankment and overturned. The driver of the car suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia.
The driver of the Honda, 44-year-old Alejandro Berriel Sanchez of Lincolnton, died at the scene.
Deputies closed the intersection for about an hour and a half while they investigated.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
Charges in the crash are pending deputies’ consultation with the Lincoln County District Attorney’s Office.
