GRANITE FALLS, N.C.,None — A hit-and-run crash in Granite Falls left a man with major injuries and thousands of dollars in medical bills.
Someone rear-ended Tim Huffman’s moped along Highway 321 earlier this month.
Investigators said after hitting the bike, the driver dragged it more than 600 feet.
“He hits me going that fast, (while I was) on a moped and me being thrown off on the side of the road to die -- that's just sad,” Huffman said.
The Highway Patrol said they didn’t find any evidence that the driver hit the brakes prior to the accident.
They found gouge marks in the pavement where the moped was dragged, and they heard from a witness who said the driver sped off.
Investigators also found pieces of the car. Part of the grille discovered near the crash scene. The Highway Patrol said it came from a Chevy Impala Supersport.
They are urging the driver to come forward.
“Eventually, something will turn up,” Trooper David Church said. “It might be six months from now. But it is going to turn up eventually and it makes it harder on them when it does.”
Huffman was wearing a helmet and had on a reflective vest when the crash happened.
He is out of work now and has nearly $80,000 of medical bills. He hopes whoever is responsible for the crash turns themselves in to police.
"It is a real horrible thing that he did,” Huffman said. “Nobody should have to go through what I went through."
