Elderly couple dies in northeast Charlotte house fire

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A husband and wife died when a fire broke out at a northeast Charlotte home Saturday morning, officials said.

The fire started at about 1:30 a.m. in the Hidden Valley neighborhood on Tom Hunter Road near Reagan Drive.

Fire officials identified the victims as 74-year-old Nellie Davis and 73-year-old Lonnie Davis, Jr.

Neighbors said Nellie Davis had a disability and needed help getting around.  They also said Lonnie Davis was a deacon at his church.

It took 27 Charlotte firefighters 27 minutes to get the fire under control.

Officials said the fire was electrical and started in the den of the home. It caused about $25,000 in damage.
