CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Two suspects are on the run after two men said they were robbed at gunpoint outside the Cotswold Harris Teeter on Sharon Amity Road around 1 p.m. Thursday.
According to a police report, the two robbers walked up to the two men and took a cellphone and cash.
Neither of the victims were hurt; one of them was listed as a Harris Teeter employee.
"To have somebody held up at gunpoint (in) broad daylight in a very safe area is, uh, I can't say it's unheard of unfortunately, 'cause I heard it here,” customer Tod Kudo said.
The Cotswold Village Shops are teeming with traffic and people headed to several stores in a shopping plaza near two busy streets.
“People are just getting a little bit brazen,” said Stephen Kuney, a customer. “It's a pretty safe neighborhood from what we experienced."
Channel 9 reporter Ken Lemon pulled crime statistics from a half mile radius around the store.
Over the last six months, there were 57 larcenies, eight assaults, seven burglaries, two motor vehicle thefts and a robbery.
“It gets you a little unnerved,” Kuney said.
