CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police told Channel 9 that an officer was injured and two other people were shot after a fight Sunday night in east Charlotte.
Investigators said the incident happened around 7 p.m. on Central Avenue, near Kilborne Drive.
Authorities told Channel 9 that an officer was responding to an assault call at an apartment and when he tried to de-escalate an argument, Johnathan Hammons punched him in the face.
Hammons had been shot in the leg before the officer arrived, and police said one other person was also shot.
Both shooting victims were taken to the hospital and will be fine, officials said. After being treated and released from the hospital, Hammons was arrested for assaulting an officer and taken to jail.
