UNION COUNTY, N.C. — Authorities in Union County took two people into custody Friday morning and were looking for a third person after a police pursuit near Indian Trail.
Chopper 9 SkyZoom flew over the scene and could see an active scene where police were searching farmland and wooded areas near Secrest Shortcut Road, which is near Unionville and Indian Trail Road.
According to the Union County Sheriff’s Office, the pursuit began after a person called 911 to report suspicious activity in a Monroe neighborhood.
Two schools in Union County were under a soft lockdown Friday morning due to the police activity in the area, according to the Union County Sheriff’s Office. Poplin and Sardis elementary schools were put under a soft lockdown. It was lifted just before 11:50 a.m.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol said it is assisting. Channel 9 is working to learn more about what they are investigating.
