CHARLOTTE, N.C.,None — A sophomore at UNC Charlotte was attacked and robbed by two people while walking back to her dorm room late Sunday, according to campus police.

The victim, who asked not to be identified, said, "I turned around and saw (them) running at me. I was hoping they were running past me but they weren't."

The two suspects tackled the student, threw her to the ground and made sure she couldn't call for help.

"They had an arm around my neck so I would stay on the ground and not say anything," she said.

Within a few minutes, UNCC Police caught up with 19-year-old Brittiny Phillips and arrested her.

The victim said police were able to recover all of the items stolen from her, including a purse and an iPod.

Police are still looking for the second suspect. The victim said the second suspect is a man but couldn't provide any additional identifying features.

UNCC Police Chief Jeffrey Baker said violent crime like this incident on campus is unusual. He even provided Channel 9 with statistics showing campus crime is down significantly this year.

The victim said she always felt safe on campus and thanked police for catching the first suspect so quickly. If you have any information on the identity of the second suspect, call police.
