Female student charged with setting UNCC residence hall fire

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A female student has been charged with arson in connection with a fire that broke out on UNC Charlotte's campus Wednesday, school officials confirmed.

According to officials, the fire was started in the Oak Hall residence building and destroyed one bedroom. Minor water damage was also caused in three other rooms because of the fire.

Officials said the residence hall's fire suppression system quickly extinguished the flames and repairs to the building are underway.

No one was hurt in the fire.

Channel 9 has been told that a person, who has not been identified, has been charged with first-degree felony arson as a result of an investigation by the UNC Charlotte Police and Public Safety Department.
