Union County Courthouse electronics ban takes effect

UNION COUNTY, N.C. — A new order banning cell phones and other electronic devices at the Union County Courthouse goes into effect Thursday.

The rule restricts cell phones, computers, AI glasses and other devices that can record sound and pictures for the general public.

Attorneys, law enforcement officers and courthouse staff will not be impacted.

People representing themselves or involved in a case may request permission from a judge when a device is necessary for court business.

Anyone who breaks the rules could be fined up to $500, charged with contempt of court and even jailed.
