Veteran firefighter accused of stealing $500 from Midtown Charlotte Target

CHARLOTTE — A firefighter who has worked for the Charlotte Fire Department for more than 12 years is facing charges, accused of stealing more than $500 from the Midtown Target.

Detectives said 41-year-old Timothy Ireland was arrested and charged with seven counts of misdemeanor larceny for a series of thefts between April and May.

On Monday, a representative of Target Corporation notified the police department that Ireland had committed a series of larcenies at the Target on Metropolitan Avenue.

Detectives said they learned Ireland stole more than $500 during the course of seven larcenies between April 30 and May 24. Ireland, who was hired by the Charlotte Fire Department in 2008, was then arrested and charged.

“I am disappointed by the charges against our firefighter," said CFD Chief Reginald Johnson in a release. "This does not represent or reflect our values as a department. I have the highest expectations of our members on how they conduct themselves on-duty as well as off-duty.”

According to CFD, Ireland has been reassigned during the investigation, which is active and ongoing.
