ROCK HILL, S.C. — Family members gathered for a vigil for a Rock Hill mother who police said was killed by her own son.
Police said he stabbed her with a screwdriver in Washington over a small argument.
Family members said 59-year-old Frankie Austin had just come in town three weeks ago to spend time with her dad.
At the Grace Church of the Nazarene with her smiling picture in front, friends and family called Austin a loving mother with a big heart.
Police said she was stabbed by 30-year-old son Tyler Lewis on Monday.
Family members said they're shocked because Lewis never showed any signs of violence.
Police said he then went next door and also stabbed a 67-year-old neighbor.
At Friday's vigil, family members said the news was a surprise and a complete shock.
The pastor said it will be a long process for the family to heal.
"Every time that something is mentioned or every time there is another part of the process of bringing justice to bear, it's just going to re-awaken those wounds," said the Rev. Ray Jones.
In Washington, Lewis is in the Thurston County jail being held on $2 million bond. Police said more charges could be coming.
