CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Channel 9 has uncovered new developments in a crash that killed a beloved West Mecklenburg High School student earlier this year.

Eyewitness News obtained search warrants asking for Austin Locke's medical records and toxicology reports.

Police say Locke was speeding in March on Windy Grove Road when he lost control and crashed into a tree, killing Heaven Seay.

Locke spent a month and a half in the hospital before he was arrested, and is facing a number of charges, including involuntary manslaughter.

The warrants show that Locke "exhibited a disregard for the law and public safety by driving his vehicle at a very high rate of speed."

It goes on to say he "was culpably negligent in the death of Heaven Nicole Seay."
