WAXHAW, N.C. — Waxhaw Police have suspended an active search Tuesday in the Hillcrest neighborhood near Rehobeth Road and Magnolia Ridge Drive for 45-year-old Kevin Joseph Hatley, who is wanted on a narcotics warrant after running from officers.
Police K-9 units tracked Hatley’s trail toward the South Carolina line before officers suspended the active ground search. Hatley remains at large.
Hatley is described as 5 feet, 7 inches tall with dreadlocks, last seen wearing a gray sweatshirt. Officers attempted to serve the narcotics warrant when he ran from them on foot.
Waxhaw Police advised residents in the surrounding area to lock their doors, windows and vehicles while remaining aware of their surroundings. Authorities warned the public not to approach Hatley if seen and to call 911 immediately.
Waxhaw Police acknowledged the impact of the search on local neighborhood residents.
“We understand this situation may be unsettling and we appreciate your vigilance and cooperation as our officers continue working to ensure everyone’s safety,” police said on social media.
Waxhaw Police provided extra patrols in the neighborhood.
