CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte’s tree canopy is declining at an alarming rate. A few years ago, the city was close to its goal of a 50% tree canopy, but more recently that number has dropped to 45%.

Channel 9 Meteorologist John Ahrens talked to Chuck Cole, executive director of Trees Charlotte, about what’s causing the decline and what residents can do to help protect the city’s canopy.
