CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Two North Carolina metropolitan areas cracked U.S. News & World Report’s new ranking of the 10 best places to retire, but the Queen City isn’t one of them.

Asheville and Winston-Salem ranked No. 4 and No. 7, respectively, while Raleigh-Durham came in four spots ahead of Charlotte at No. 28.

Charlotte still scored relatively well as a place for retirees to set down roots, landing at No. 32 on the list. Greensboro placed at No. 37.
Across the state line in South Carolina, Greenville ranked No. 26; Charleston is at No. 31; Myrtle Beach came in at No. 42; and Columbia landed at No. 101.
