Whole Foods almost ready for uptown Charlotte debut

Whole Foods Market is putting the finishing touches on its 36,000-square-foot store in uptown Charlotte.

That store opens at 9 a.m. on Wednesday. It is located at 400 E. Stonewall St., at the Stonewall Station light-rail stop.

“It’s definitely designed to be a community gathering place. We want it to be a place to come and hang out,” says Rachel Dean Wilson, spokesperson.

The store’s design melds industrial touches with a nod to the region’s roots with racing-themed decor. Think open ceilings, industrial light fixtures and polished concrete floor mixed with the light wood bar. There’s a number of seating nooks as well.

Shoppers should expect all of the usuals Whole Foods has become known for at the store. The grocer remains focused on high-quality natural food — no artificial flavors, colors, sweeteners, preservatives or hydrogenated fats — and organic options.
