CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Catholic Diocese of Charlotte announced that the Mass for the Most Rev. William G. Curlin, bishop emeritus, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Gabriel Church in Charlotte.
Curlin, a former bishop with the Diocese of Charlotte, died Dec. 23 at Carolinas Medical Center after a battle with cancer.
Curlin was 90 years old.
According to the diocese, Curlin was the third bishop of the Diocese of Charlotte and served from 1994 until his retirement in 2002.
“Bishop Curlin was an inspiring and faith-filled shepherd of our diocese who had a special love for the poor and ministry to those who were sick and near death,” said Bishop Peter J. Jugis, current bishop of the diocese. “May he rest in the peace of Christ, knowing that his tireless efforts brought many to salvation in the Lord.”
