CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Winston-Salem police officer was arrested while off duty in Charlotte Tuesday night.

Byron M. Jamerson III, 33, is accused of assaulting the female owner of Mattie's Diner, according to a report filed by the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department.

Few details are being released about what took place inside the diner, but the police report stated the 29-year-old owner had "bruises and scratches" and Jamerson used "personal weapons - such as hands, feet, teeth, etc."

Channel 9 reached out to the owner of the diner in an attempt to find out what happened. The woman declined an on-camera interview but confirmed she told police Jamerson became combative inside the establishment.

"We're in the process of talking with our attorney and cooperating with police," the woman told Channel 9 over the phone.

Channel 9 also reached out to the Winston Salem Police Department after learning about Jamerson's arrest. The police chief wouldn't confirm the officer's name but told Fox 8 the department is aware of the incident.

"I will say this employee has been placed on administrative leave," said Chief Barry Roundtree. "Our Professional Standards Division is working with CMPD to get all of the facts. This is an administrative and personnel matter, therefore I'm not releasing any names or photos."

WSPD's human resources department later confirmed to Fox 8 Jamerson has been an officer with the department since August 2007.

Channel 9 will continue to follow the criminal and administrative investigations surrounding the officer and provide any updates made available.
