STATESVILLE, N.C. — A Virginia woman is in custody after authorities said she took a credit card from her husband’s grandmother while in Statesville.
Alesha Ann Chapman, 26, of Warrenton, Va., was arrested on a charge of larceny of a financial transaction card, said Iredell Sheriff Phil Redmond. She was arrested in Warrenton, which is located just south of Washington, D.C.
Redmond said the sheriff’s office began investigating on Oct. 5 of last year when an Iredell resident reported that her credit card had been taken.
Detective Sgt. Scott Maple of the Economic Crimes Unit began an investigation and learned that the card disappeared when Chapman was visiting the woman, who is her husband’s grandmother, Redmond said.
Maple learned the card was used in several states, ranging from North Carolina to Florida.
Chapman was located in Warrenton earlier this month, and extradited back to North Carolina last week. Her bond was set at $10,000.
