ALBEMARLE, N.C. — A woman was killed in a house fire early Friday morning in Albemarle, according to fire officials.
The fire started around 5:15 a.m. at a home on Waddell Drive off Highway 24.

When firefighters got there, they said they quickly worked to put out the flames, but a woman was unable to get out in time.
The home had a working smoke detector, according to fire investigators.
