CHARLOTTE, N.C. — On Tuesday night, police are looking for a flasher who exposed himself inside Southpark Mall in the middle of the day.
Shoppers who spoke with Eyewitness News said they are worried for their safety. They can't believe someone was so bold to flash a woman inside the mall.
"It's just not a place I associate with anything going wrong usually. I mean there's security all over the place," said shopper Anabel Buchenau.
The police report said that on Monday inside the mall around 11:30 a.m., a 22-year-old woman claimed: "The suspect exposed his private parts to the victim in an unwanted sexual gesture."
Eyewitness News told Buchenau about the flasher report.
"I'm not surprised per say that it happens; I'm just surprised at the location. That's somebody really out trying to get shock value, you know," said Buchenau.
Southpark Mall would not reveal in exactly which store the man exposed himself, but they did release a statement: "SouthPark mall management will not tolerate this behavior on mall property and supports the police department's efforts in the arrest and prosecution of this individual."
Shopper Taquisha Beckford said while this won't keep her from the mall, she said, "It doesn't make me scared to shop there, I just think it is really gross."
She will definitely keep an eye out.
"I work on this side of town and I actually live over here, so it'll make me more aware," said Beckford.
Eyewitness News asked police for a description of the flasher Tuesday night, but police have not released that information yet – saying the case is under an active investigation.
Police said there could be store surveillance of the incident.
