CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are investigating a woman's report that a man sexually assaulted her early Sunday morning near a popular south Charlotte bar area.
A police report said a man followed a 27-year-old woman around 2 a.m. as she was walked home from a bar on Montford Drive.
The report said the man, whom the victim did not know, attacked her on Park Road, “dragging her by her hair” and "strangling her with his hands."
He sexually assaulted her in a parking lot in the 4700 block of Park Road, the report said.
"I'm definitely going to have keep a better eye out," said Abby Johnson, who lives within walking distance of where the attack happened.
Johnson, like many other people, hadn't heard of the reported crime.
"It's very disturbing to me," said one man as he and his girlfriend walked to a restaurant on Montford Drive.
Police said the reported crime is not only disturbing but also rare. CMPD said this is the first reported sexual assault in the area this year.
The woman was treated at Presbyterian hospital.
No arrests have been made.
The man is described as 5 foot 5 inches tall and weighing about 150 pounds.
Investigators are hoping to get a more detailed description.
