Wreck causes car to plunge into Shelby business

SHELBY, N.C. — A woman drove into oncoming traffic in a Shelby intersection and slammed into another car, causing it to crash into a store front, troopers told Channel 9's partner, The Shelby Star.

A green Mercury Tracer driving on Taylor Road pulled out and hit a Nissan Altima driving on South Post Road around 2 p.m. Friday, officials said.

The Nissan, driven by 19-year-old John Williams IV, plowed into the Boundless Home Care Inc. on South Post Road, according to troopers.

Williams and the Mercury driver, 62-year-old Karen Shepherd, were taken to Carolinas HealthCare System - Cleveland with non-life-threatening injuries.

The business was empty at the time of the crash, which left the front wall with a crack up to the roof.

Troopers have not yet filed charges.
