WWII projectiles surface at North Carolina beach following Florence

NORTH TOPSAIL BEACH, N.C. — Armor-piercing rounds dating back to World War II have surfaced on a North Carolina beach after Hurricane Florence.

One of them was a 23-pound anti-tank round.

Bradley Dixon said he had two experts look at the rounds, and determined that they are not dangerous.

A volunteer firefighter found them on Topsail Island Beach, along with a pile of shrapnel and machine gun rounds.

Dixon said he plans to offer all the items to local a museum.
