FORT MILL, S.C. — A local family is taking legal action two years after a former employee with the Boys and Girls Club in York County was accused of slamming their child to the ground.

The boy's mother is looking for justice.

“I had kids running up to me telling me, 'Somebody beat your son up,'” Shaquana Little said.

Little said she heard those accusations when she arrived at Springfield Middle School in Fort Mill to pick up her 9-year-old son from the Boys and Girls Club after-school program in October 2015.

“I expected them to take good care of him, to nurture him, to look after him as if he was one of their own children,” Little said.

According to the Fort Mill police report, Little's son and another student claimed they were body-slammed to the ground by Isreal Lightner, and that Lightner admitted to police that he lost his temper.

“Memory loss. He's suffered headaches. His grades went down in school,” Little said of her son.

The police report said Lightner was charged with assault and battery and verbal threats

Little filed a lawsuit against Lightner, the Boys and Girls Club of York County and Fort Mill Schools with claims, including violation of constitutional rights and negligence.

The Boys and Girls Club and school district emailed Channel 9 and said they won't comment on pending litigation.

“I just wanted this situation to be accounted for and for them to move on and admit to their mistakes and be very careful of who they choose,” Little said.

Channel 9 asked York County courts officials for an update on the criminal charges against Lightner, but they could not find any record.

Little's attorney said it may have been expunged through a pretrial intervention program.

Court officials said expungements are not part of the public record.
