CHARLOTTE, N.C.,None — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has charged a 32-year-old man with murder in connection with the death of his girlfriend's son Monday.
Police were called early Monday morning to 3436 Teal Point Drive, Apt. J1 with a report that a small child was not breathing.
MEDIC transported the 19-month-old Zione Washington to Presbyterian Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Michael Damon Walker, who is the boyfriend of the Zione's mother, has been charged with first-degree murder and child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury in connection with the infant's death.
Police said there was evidence of bruising on Washington's body at the time of death.
According to police, detectives obtained a voluntary confession from Walker after the infant's death.
Police said the infant's mother, Shamika Washington, will not be charged in the case.
According to police, Ms. Washington left the apartment, and on her return, discovered that Zione has lost consciousness.
She called 911 immediately upon discovering his condition.
Crime Scene Search responded to the scene to photograph it and collect physical evidence.
