Man With 3 DWI Convictions Faces New Charge

GASTONIA, N.C.,None — A Gastonia man with three prior DWI convictions faces a new drunken driving charge, this time with the additional charges of having a stolen license tag and no driver's license.

Richard Scott Taylor, 44, was jailed under a $10,000 bond early Tuesday morning after his arrest by Gastonia police, Channel 9's newspaper partner, the Gaston Gazette, reported.

An officer stopped Taylor on South Myrtle School Road near West Sixth Avenue at about 1 a.m. Tuesday. The officer noticed the odor of alcohol on Taylor's breath and said he had an open container of alcohol while driving, according to warrants.

Taylor's blood-alcohol level was 0.12, police said. North Carolina law considers a driver impaired with a blood alcohol level of 0.08.

Taylor's previous DWI convictions were related to charges in 1984, 1996 and 2009. Taylor was released from prison on Nov. 14 after serving four months on a larceny conviction.
