CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Mexico's popular national soccer team will visit Charlotte, NC, for the first time on Wednesday at 8 p.m., when it takes on Iceland at Bank of America Stadium as part of its preparations for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
A pre-game festival is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. on Wednesday in front of Bank of America Stadium on Mint Street.
Attendance for the festival is estimated to be around 15,000 to 20,000 people. 65,000 tickets to the game were sold as of March 12 and the game is expected to be sold out by Wednesday.
The Federación Mexicana de Fútbol (FMF), together with Soccer United Marketing (SUM), in January announced the Charlotte match as part of the Mexican National team's 2010 U.S. Tour that will visit six cities from coast to coast.
This match represents the third game of the Mexican squad's 2010 U.S. tour.
The annual U.S. tour will give the Mexican National Team the opportunity to finalize their preparations for the 2010 FIFA World Cup opener on June 11 in Johannesburg against host South Africa.
