26 firefighters fight flames at south Charlotte apartments

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — More than two dozen firefighters were called to an apartment fire in south Charlotte early Wednesday morning.

Fire crews arriving on scene at Countrymens Court around 3:45 a.m. saw heavy flames coming from a unit.

It took 26 firefighters roughly 30 minutes to get the fire under control.

The fire impacted four units and officials said nobody was injured but four adults and a dog were displaced.

The Red Cross was on scene to help them.

Fire investigators said the fire started in the rear of the building due to improperly thrown away smoking materials.

Officials estimated the fire caused $30,000 in damages.
