A Myers Park graduate was banned from school property after dropping his pants during graduation ceremonies.

Honor student Nicholas de la Canal rigged his clothing with Velcro so that when he stepped onto the stage, his pants fell down. When he bent over as if to raise his pants, his gown split in the back, exposing polka-dot boxers -- as he planned.

De la Canal was escorted off the stage by an assistant principal.

The student, who had worked with breakaway clothing in theater productions, said he considered the stunt a success.

People who are banned from school property can appeal, according to the chief of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools police.
