WATAUGA COUNTY, N.C. — The North Carolina ski industry is getting ready for what could be their biggest weekend of the year.
At Appalachian Ski Mountain, the owner told Channel 9 that the recent cold snap has allowed them to make several feet of snow. He is expecting a lot of skiers this weekend for both Valentine's Day and the President's Day holiday on Monday.
Channel 9 spoke with several families already in the High Country Friday enjoying the conditions.
“It's not very cold -- cold enough so it won't get slushy. And nice powder, nice snow,” said one skier.
The Department of Transportation is expected to provide an update on road conditions Thursday afternoon. The main roads in Watauga County were clear as of noon.
