NORTH CAROLINA,None — North Carolina homeowners are looking for relief from the rising cost of living, and from Nov. 5-7, they can find some of that relief by taking advantage of the state's tax-free holiday for energy and water efficient products.
During the three-day holiday, purchases of select appliances that meet ENERGY STAR qualifications will be exempt from the North Carolina sales tax.
Choosing ENERGY STAR products items with the government backed, national symbol for superior energy efficiency is a great way to make a home energy-wise.
The Energy Star products available for the tax exemption include: • clothes washers • air conditioners (central and room) • air-source and geothermal heat pumps • ceiling fans • dehumidifiers • programmable thermostats • refrigerators • freezers
When buying an appliance, remember that it has two price tags: what you pay to take it home and what you pay for the energy and water it uses.
ENERGY STAR qualified appliances incorporate advanced technologies that use 10-50 percent less energy and water than standard models. The money you save on your utility bills can more than make up for the cost of a more expensive but more efficient ENERGY STAR model.
