Police say man acted in self-defense in Shelby shooting

SHELBY, N.C. — Police released more information about a shooting of a Shelby mother this weekend.

Police told Channel 9 that Steve Morris will not be charged with murder.

Investigators said they determined Morris was acting in self-defense when he shot Latasha Petty.

Her body was found in the parking lot of the Parkside Villas on Ramblewood Road early Saturday morning.

Morris is still charged with other offenses, including having a gun as a felon.
