YORK COUNTY, S.C.,None — The Catawba Nuclear Station will test its sirens at approximately 11:50 a.m. today.
The three-minute test is meant to assure state and county officials and Duke Energy that they are functioning properly. It is performed once each quarter, and no public action is required.
The sirens are a signal for people to turn to a TV station or radio in the area that would typically carry emergency alerts. In an event of a true emergency, these stations would provide information.
