A Gastonia man with four DWI convictions in his past faces another charge of drunken driving, according to the Gaston Gazette.
Gastonia police stopped Dennis Miller, 44, on Radio Street near North Weldon Street around 11:30 p.m. Sunday after noticing him making a wide turn, according to police.
Police reported a strong odor of alcohol on Miller's breath. Miller blew a 0.12 percent on a Breathalyzer test which is over the legal limit in North Carolina of 0.08 percent.
Miller's previous DWI convictions all occurred in Gaston County in 1994, 1995, 2001 and 2010, according to police.
Police said Miller was charged with DWI, driving without a license, consuming alcohol while driving and giving fictitious information to police.
Miller was jailed with bail set at $20,000.
A law that would require harsher punishments for repeat DWI offenders is currently making its way through a North Carolina Senate committee.
It is named after Laura Fortenberry, who was killed in a crash caused by suspected drunk driver Howard Pasour. Pasour has been convicted of DWI three times.
