Police: Man Had Sawed-Off Shotgun In Pants

SALISBURY, N.C.,None — Salisbury police arrested Jeremiah Howie because he had a sawed-off shotgun inside the front part of his pants, officers said.

Officers said they stopped Howie and three other men at about 4 a.m. Monday at the intersection of Kerr and Long streets in connection with an investigation into an earlier robbery. When an officer told the men to stop, Howie ran away, police said. After a short pursuit, police stopped him.

Howie told the officers he was armed and that he was afraid the gun was going to go off as they took him into custody, police said. Officers said they then found the shotgun.

The other three men who were with Howie were not arrested. Police said none of the four men were involved in the robbery they were initially investigating.

Howie is in jail under a $20,000 bond and faces weapons charges.
