CROWDERS MOUNTAIN, N.C.,None — A teenager defaced rocks and boulders at Crowders Mountain State Park by spray painting swastikas on them, according to police.
David Joseph Ray Araujo, 19, of Gastonia, painted the messages used by the Nazi party in the 1920s and incorporated into the Nazi Party flag in the 1930s by Adolph Hitler from March 1 through April 18 at the state park, according to warrant affidavits.
Neo-Nazi groups now use the swastika.
A warrant for Araujo's arrest was filed on July 15.
A Gaston County court convicted Araujo of breaking and entering in January and he was sentenced to a suspended sentence. However, Araujo was an absconder and on the run from the law, according to the Department of Correction.
According to a probation report, Araujo tested positive for marijuana on Jan. 25, Feb. 4 and Feb. 8, and tested positive for opiates Feb. 8. Araujo also missed curfews, failed to report to drug classes and moved without permission without telling his probation officer where he went.
He was booked into Gaston County Jail under a $52,000 bond on Wednesday on charges of injury to property and probation violation.
