Burr Proposes 3 Senate Debates For October

RALEIGH, N.C.,None — North Carolina Sen. Richard Burr says he has accepted an invitation to an October debate and is challenging his eventual opponent to two more forums.

Burr's campaign said in a statement on Wednesday that he would participate in a debate organized by the League of Women Voters of North Carolina and WNCN-TV in Raleigh. The Republican lawmaker suggested two other debates in October, one held by UNC-TV and another by a to-be-determined media outlet in western North Carolina.

Democrats have yet to nominate a candidate for the November election. Tuesday's primary advanced Secretary of State Elaine Marshall and former state Sen. Cal Cunningham to a runoff. The two began that race with competing campaign events in Raleigh on Wednesday.
