The following is a list of Democratic and Republican candidates who are running in 2016 for President of the United States:

Democrats

  • Lincoln Chafee, former Rhode Island governor: "I enjoy challenges, and today we have many facing America." (UPDATE: Dropped out of race Oct. 23)
  • Hillary Clinton, former Secretary of State:  "I'm running for president."
  • Martin O'Malley, former Maryland governor: "I declared that I am a candidate for President for the United States and I am running for you."
  • Bernie Sanders, United States senator from Vermont: "After a year of travel, discussion and dialogue, I have decided to be a candidate for the Democratic nomination for president."
  • Jim Webb,  former United States senator from Virginia: "After many months of thought, deliberation and discussion, I have decided to seek the office of the Presidency of the United States."

  • Ben Carson, retired neurosurgeon: "I'm announcing my candidacy for president of the United States."

  • Lindsey Graham, United States senator from South Carolina: "I'm running because I think the world is falling apart."
  • Mike Huckabee, former Arkansas governor: "I announce that I am a candidate for president of the United States of America."
  • Bobby Jindal, Louisiana governor: "I'm running for President of the United States of America."
