LANCASTER CO., S.C.,None — A South Carolina Highway Patrolman was killed in a crash early Saturday morning in Lancaster County.
Corporal Dana Kevin Cusack, 45, was on duty when he rolled his patrol car on Highway 200, officials said.
First Sgt. Ray Sapp with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said Cusack was ejected from his cruiser but was wearing his seatbelt. Investigators said no other cars were involved.
The Lancaster County Sheriff's Office is investigating the accident. They released few details, including whether Cusack was responding to a call when he crashed.
Sapp said he was devastated to find out his friend and colleague was dead, but is comforted by one thing. "That's the easy part is knowing that he's with Jesus," he said.
The last time Troop 4, the unit Cusack belonged to, lost a member while they were on duty was back in 1989. That's the same year Cusack joined the state patrol.
Cusack lived in Clover and is survived by his mother and three children.
Funeral arrangements have not been released.
