CHARLOTTE, N.C.,None — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say a serial robber struck again, this time in Plaza Midwood.
The man held up a Cricket phone store on Central Avenue Wednesday evening, police said.
SLIDESHOW: Surveillance Footage Shows Robbery Suspect
The suspect has robbed five businesses in less than two weeks, according to investigators. Most of the businesses have been tanning salons.
There are five other tanning salons within three miles of the first business to be robbed -- Dilworth Tanning Spa. Several of those businesses said they are considering purchasing additional cameras.
Brittany Smith, who works at Club Tan in South End, said in light of the recent robberies, she is scared and is taking action.
"I lock my door, and I can usually see them from my desk. And if I don't know who they are, and I don't have a good feeling, I don't have to let them in. They can knock, I tell them I'm closed or come back later or something like that," she said.
Detectives said they're are glad businesses are considering surveillance cameras and that the cameras should be positioned to face the door.
"Certainly, we're concerned he may do it again," said Detective Brian Scharf. "A lot of the cameras they have are for internal issues, for employees. They're not positioned for external issues. So we've asked them to reposition cameras (and) think about additional cameras."
Smith's employer is pricing new cameras this week.
"The more this comes up, the more we're looking into it. Upgrading surveillance is the best we can do," she said.
And Smith hopes it's enough to stay safe until the robber is caught.
Police said the thief is a white man who is about 6 feet tall. He has a hooked nose, which may make him stand out to business owners and employees, police said. The man is driving a newer model dark gray or charcoal-colored Ford Mustang with white lettering on the sides, according to police.
Anyone with information is asked to call police.
