CHARLESTON, S.C. — Charleston Southern University issued a campus alert after a student said someone wearing a clown mask threatened her with a knife while she was walking her dog near the campus.
News outlets report that the school sent out the alert late Tuesday, urging students to be cautious.
The report says the student told officials she saw the clown near the Atlantic Palms Apartments, which are just east of the university.
The incident comes after recent reports of clowns popping up in different states and scaring residents.
University officials stressed that to their knowledge the suspicious person was not seen on campus.
