South Carolina woman accused of driving drunk with 6 kids in car

AIKEN, S.C. — Police in South Carolina have arrested a woman accused of driving under the influence with six young children in the car, including a 1-month-old infant.

Aiken Department of Public Safety officers responded to an apartment last week where callers reported a disturbance. Witnesses said they saw 33-year-old Mary Alice Deloris Williams leave in a car with the young kids, news outlets reported on Wednesday.

Officers tracked the car and witnessed it swerve off the road before pulling into a gas station, an incident report recounted.

An officer noted Williams smelled of alcohol, and was given a field sobriety test.

She's been charged with six counts of child endangerment and driving under the influence. The children, who were up to 11 years old, were released into the custody of family members, local news outlets reported.
