LOUISVILLE, KY — Surveillance video caught an elementary school girl getting dragged by her school bus last week in Louisville, Kentucky, ABC News reported.

Police said a 5- or 6-year-old girl got her backpack stuck in the door while she was being let off the bus on Friday afternoon.

The bus driver was unaware that the girl was stuck, police said.

A witness told police that she didn't see the girl get off the bus, but saw the girl's legs hangning out of the bus as it drove down the road.

The witness said she saw a car speed alongside the bus, honking to try to stop it. The bus stopped, and the driver called police.

"It wasn't a pretty sight," witness Esther Karschner said. "It's very frightening."

Karschner said the girl's torso was inside the bus, but her legs were dragging on the road.

Police said the girl was dragged about 100 feet, but Karschner said it was about 600 to 1,000 feet.

The girl was hospitalized for road rash to her legs. Her injuries were non-life-threatening.

WHAS-TV reported that the surveillance video was captured by camera at a neighboring house.

Police are still investigating the incident.
