A 1-year-old South Florida boy died after getting struck by a sport utility vehicle.

Neallie Saxon Jr. III, of Deerfield Beach, died at Broward Health Medical Center on Monday, according to WPLG.

They were carrying food inside when they think Neallie followed someone outside and wandered into the street, according to WPLG.

Anthony Clay, a witness, said he saw the driver hit the child and keep on driving. Clay added that family members chased down the SUV, WPLG reported.

“By that time, they caught her at the stop sign and they pulled her out (of) the vehicle and they beat her unmercifully,” Clay told WPLG.

The driver and Neallie were both taken to the hospital. Broward County Sheriff’s Office detectives are still investigating, according to WPLG.
