13 -year-old girl and 2-week-old son missing, stepfather wanted

EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. — Police believe a stepfather may have kidnapped a 13-year-old teen and her 2-week-old baby and may be headed for West Virginia.

According to KSDK, the Madison County Sheriff's Office says that Katherine and Christopher Ray Derleth, who live in Carpenter, Illinois, went missing Sunday. Authorities also believe that they are with Katherine's stepfather, Christopher Derleth.

Police believe the baby is in danger because he was born just 19 days ago. They also are concerned that the 13-year-old may need medical attention.

"We are asking for assistance from authorities from here all the way to the East Coast. We believe they may be in West Virginia or somewhere along the way," Illinois State's Attorney Tom Gibbons told KTVI.
