Veterans Day 2019: What's open, what's closed

Monday, Nov. 11, is Veterans Day, a federal holiday when many government offices are closed.

Below is a list of some institutions that will be closed next Monday, and some that will be open. For local services and institutions, check with your city or county.

While government institutions will closed, most retail and restaurants will remain open for those who have a long weekend to enjoy.

Closed:

Banks: Most banks will be closed Monday.

Courts: Local, state and federal courts will be closed.

Federal offices: All federal government offices that are non-essential will be closed.

Garbage: Generally, city and county garbage and recycling collections that fall on Veterans Day are moved to another day of the week. Check with local municipalities.

Libraries: Most public libraries will close.

Mail services: The U.S. Postal Service won't deliver mail on Monday. Post offices will be closed.

Schools: Most schools close for Veterans Day. Check with your local school for more information.

Open:

Grocery stores: Most grocery stores will be open.

Department stores, retail: Most stores and shops will be open.

National parks: You can visit a national park on Monday. Entrance fees will be waived that day.

Package delivery: UPS and FedEx will deliver packages. Some of their stores could be closed or have altered hours.

Restaurants: Most restaurants will also remain open.

Stock markets: The New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq will remain open.
